🚨 Out of the ordinary: a position that you shouldn’t miss 👇
In the last two issues, I told you about Grammarly’s hub in Berlin. Well, I went to their meetup this week, and it was fascinating to hear how they build and deploy their apps on seven different platforms. They are looking for engineers, for example, for iOS/macOS, but you should totally check their other engineering positions out. Challenging and great stuff.

This week the shoutout is for a great thinker that probably does not need a shoutout, Adam Tooze. Read him, he is smart, versteht auch Deutschland ziemlich gut.
🗞 Top inspiration snippets
A dry week for Berlin.
🇩🇪 Berlin & Germany
Amie, Berlin-based calendar and to-do app, raised $7M (already in the summer, but communicated now). Careers on the page. With salary ranges!
OroraTech, Munich-based thermal-infrared satellite imaging company, raised €15M Series A extension. Careers.
Secjur, Hamburg-based digital compliance company, raised €5.5M seed. Careers.
Business insider/Gründerszene had a poll about the most impressive startup of 2022. The results are in: 1. Enpal, 2. 1Komma5°, 3. Likeminded. So many numbers, einskommafunf!
“Getir buying Gorillas” saga is getting a twist. (🇩🇪) Now Delivery Hero, which also invested in Gorillas previously, is also interested. In the same space, Doordash, owner of Wolt, will cut 1250 jobs. And because it is cold, Lieferando will pay their riders more (🇩🇪, €) and provide thermal underwear. At least something.
Inflation data for Berlin: 9.1% YoY, driven mainly by energy. Food is 21.3% more expensive, the largest jump since 1991. Crazy, but flour is 75.6% more expensive. Phew. More data on the link. (🇩🇪)
Interesting! Many job seekers want to work from home, but there is a lack of remote positions. Half of the applicants want WFH, while only 15% of the job postings offer it. Wild.
layoffs this week: Infarm (foreseen weeks ago - 500, 50%) and ResearchGate (10%).
r/berlin choice of the week is a warning that you should never pay a “fine” with cash. Logical, but worth to repeat.
🇪🇺 Rest of Europe & UK (Top 5)
Keyrock, Brussels-based digital (crypto) asset market maker, raised $72M. Careers.
Volta Trucks, Swedish E-truck producer, extended Series C with €60M. Careers.
Huel, UK-based meal replacement company, raised $24M Series B. Careers.
Treecard, London-based wooden debit card sustainability play, raised €22M. Careers.
Zoe Health, UK-based nutrition specialist, raised £25M for extended Series B. Careers.

🤓 Timeless and useful
If you will ever look for an AI tool you can try Futurepedia.
Ah, AI… brings back memories. I have heard important managers say: “Let’s put some AI on it!” Hue hue hue. 🤦🏻♂️

fake but funny if you know the context (via Chris Bakke).
Footer 💀 facts. Guess which species is the most dangerous to humans? Mosquitoes kill 725k people annually, closely followed by people at 475k. Sharks come last at 10. I was surprised that snails are so deadly (10k). Source.
